B.W.S.L. donates keyboard, chairs to elderly

Story Picture
This afternoon, if you happened to pass by the Sister Cecilia Home for the Elderly, you could not help but hear sweet sounds coming from inside the building. The residents were celebrating the latest donation made to them by Belize Water Services Limited. For some time the staff and residents have been without a fully functional piano. The Home was also badly in need of chairs for its dining room. So you can imagine the relief when B.W.S.L. announced that it would be giving the home a Yamaha keyboard along with fifty plastic chairs. Home Director Rose Armstrong says they are extremely grateful for the gift.

“What happen is that the chairs that we had, most of them were wooden chairs and they had gotten worn out and broken and we need it in the dining room, because all residents gather in the dining room to have their meals. And the keyboard, we have an old piano, but we had gotten it donated second hand and we have it over ten to twelve years, it was given to the late Sister Cecilia by a group in New Orleans. So some of the keys are not functioning and we have three residents that play. They play during the morning, afternoon and when we have visitors and special occasion.”

Cynthia Bennett, Human Resources Manager, B.W.S.L.

“We have over the last few months embarked on the community assistance programme, which we run throughout the country. We look at the needs of people, mostly children, elderly and whatever assistance we can provide we have been doing so. We had painted the children’s home, donated signs, we had AIDS placard that we put in different parts of Belize City, we donated garbage bins in the districts, and we are committed to continue doing this type of assistance so we can give back to the community.”

B.W.S.L. says their next two projects will be for the southside of Belize City and will include the construction of a swimming pool and park for children.
