Shootout in Cayo leaves cop, suspect wounded
A shootout between a policeman and a robbery suspect in Cayo has sent both men to the hospital. According to police, around ten-thirty Wednesday night two men robbed a bar owner and six patrons at a club on Peter August Street in Santa Elena. When the cops arrived on the scene they saw a man running into a nearby yard. The suspect then fired on the two police officers, hitting constable Kent Martinez twice in the leg. Police returned the fire in kind, catching the gunman in his left thigh. Both shooting victims were admitted to the San Ignacio hospital in stable condition. A search of the suspect resulted in the discovery of a thirty-eight handgun and three expended shells, along with items identified as proceeds from the robbery. A second suspect is still being sought by authorities.
