Career burglar stabbed to death in prison

He gained notoriety as Belize’s busiest burglar…but tonight John Bartley is dead. The career criminal was apparently stabbed in the chest this morning by a fellow inmate at Hattieville prison. Officials at the K.H.M.H. tell News 5 that he reached the hospital around one-thirty this afternoon, but by two-oh-seven he was dead. Police from Belize City and Hattieville are conducting an investigation and at news time were still at the prison trying to put together the pieces. By his own admission, Bartley had committed hundreds of break-ins…and despite public statements that he had changed his bad ways, never did overcome the habit. Bartley was paying for his transgressions with a forty-five year sentence.
