Benque Moneychanger Shot at Home
A well-known money lender of Benque Viejo del Carmen is recovering from gunshot injuries he received on Thursday, when armed assailants opened fire on his home. Fifty-one-year-old Erwin Cocom was at home on Pedro Guerra Mena Street around eleven a.m. when two gunmen showed up at his residence on a motorcycle. The pair fired multiple shots at the house and as a result Cocom was injured to the right hip, hand and leg. According to police, Cocom was transported to the KHMH for medical treatment but a check with officials at the hospital on Thursday indicated that no one under that name had been admitted to ward. A police investigation into the near-fatal attack on Cocom is being conducted by Benque Viejo police. So far no arrests have been made.
