Businessman from Corozal Gets Robbed at Airstrip
A store manager from Corozal Town was robbed over the weekend by two men who waylaid him at the Ranchito airstrip up north. Thirty-four-year-old Avinash Deshmukh went on a quick trip to San Pedro and it was on his return that he was robbed of about fifty-four thousand dollars in cash. Deshmukh took a one-thirty flight to the island leaving behind his SUV at the parking lot of the airstrip. He collected about twenty-two thousand U.S. dollars in wholesale and retail proceeds from a store and an additional ten thousand dollars in Belize currency. The store manager took the five o’clock flight back to Corozal. He claims that he noted that two men were in a vehicle parked behind his Four-Runner. When he opened his vehicle, an armed man jumped out of the getaway car and robbed him of the backpack containing all the cash. Deshmukh was reportedly hit to his head causing a cut wound to the top of his head. Police are investigating the incident.
