Chester Says Goodbye to City; Will He Leave Police Department Too?

ACP Chester Williams formally bid farewell to Belize City this afternoon during an official sendoff organized by his colleagues at Eastern Division South.  The respected top cop assumes a new role with the Belize Police Department on July first, a desk job in Belmopan as head of the Professional Standards Branch.  But it’s a controversial transfer that sees the outgoing commander kicking and screaming as he leaves for his latest assignment.  The decision to relocate Williams was made by Commissioner Allen Whylie earlier this year, despite the accomplishments that have been made by Williams in the south side jurisdiction.  But, will the Assistant Commissioner of Police remain in office past January 2018?  It’s a decision that Williams is still pondering, alluding to an early exit from law enforcement when that time comes.

“He is the commissioner of the day and he has superintendence over the police department and he decides where we work.  I will take up my transfer in Belmopan.  I don‘t know for how long will remain with you.  I surely will finish the rest of this year.  As of January of next year, I don‘t know what my future will hold with the police department.  If or when that time comes, I will surely ensure that I make a decision that is best for me, my future, as well as for the police department.  I enjoy being a police officer and I want to continue serving my country in this capacity as a police officer.  You‘re all my brothers and sisters no matter what and like I said before, I will always carry you in my heart.  It is not goodbye, it is see you soon.”
