O.W. man charged with murder for Dec. incident

Tonight a man is charged with murder following the death of his victim six months after the incident. According to police reports, on Thursday, thirty-one year old Benjamin Chulin of Tower Hill in the Orange Walk District was rearrested and charged with murder after the authorities were informed that forty-one year Reynaldo Roberts had died at a hospital in Guatemala City. Roberts had been transferred to the medical facility for treatment after an injury he received in early December 2002 became infected. However, despite doctor’s efforts, Roberts died on June twenty-third. Roberts was shot in the back with a spear gun on December ninth and police contend that Chulin was the triggerman. An eyewitness to the attack, Robert’s brother, Rigoberto, says all three of them were socializing at Chulin’s house when an argument ensued. Chulin asked them to leave, but as they were complying with the request, Rigoberto says Chulin shot Reynaldo without warning. News 5 understands that Reynaldo and Rigoberto are cousins of Benjamin Chulin.
