Stake Bank Caye survivor dies at K.H.M.H.
In news from the crime beat, the police investigation into the double homicide on Stake Bank Caye took a major blow as its primary witness has died. Authorities at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital tell News 5 that twenty-two year old Alberto Josue Gomez died around eight on Tuesday night. Doctors say cause of death was due to complications stemming from a gunshot wound Gomez sustained to the mouth. Gomez and his parents, Luis Alberto and Milagro Cerna, were all shot on June twenty-ninth at their fishing camp on Stake Bank Caye, located approximately three and a half miles from Belize City. While the couple was found dead on the island, their son had managed to travel by boat to the city to inform authorities of the attack. Gomez was unable to tell police who was responsible for the murders before his death and the only other witness to the grisly crime is his ten-month-old son. This afternoon police sources told News 5 that they will pursue other avenues in order to gather information on the crime and reiterates that the case remains open.
