Cab driver says he’s not part of robbery

Story PictureTwo gunmen robbed Tienda Melchor in a broad daylight heist at the corner of Mussel Street and Cemetery Road on October twenty third. The store keeper and bystanders saw the men escape in a red car. That is after placing a DVD player, two thousand dollars cash a pair of boots inside a “Winnie the Pooh” bag. Police have apprehended and remanded one of the gunmen. At the time they questioned Tyrone Martinez who was driving the red taxi that the robbers jumped into after fleeing the store. Martinez, who is concerned for his safety, spoke off-camera to News Five today, to say that he is innocent. He was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“I was passing on Cemetery Road with a customer. At the time two young men flagged down the taxi that I was driving…”

“That was in front of Tienda Melchor?”

Voice of: Tyrone Martinez
“Yes sir. And at the time I was headed out to Albert Street to get the customer. I stopped, they got into the car, not knowing there was a robbery in progress and the young boy, they told me to ker them off to their destination. I collect my fees for the taxi that they hired me for my service. And from there point that’s all I know about myself to whatever happened Friday.”

“You were driving a red taxi. Police saw them driving away in a red taxi. Did they question you? Were you detained?”

“No I wasn’t detained. I was in questioned. I just wanted my name cleared in every which way that I am no kind of criminal.”
