Trade relations to improve between Bz. & Guatemala
Trade relations between Belize and Guatemala improved this week with the settlement of a working agreement between agriculture ministers from both countries. According to a government press release, newly appointed Guatemalan Minister, Ingenerio Sett Oliva, met with Belize’s Servulo Baeza during a working visit last week in Guatemala City. The two countries have agreed on several initiatives including: development of sugar cane research and technical cooperation projects in Belize and Guatemala; the exportation of Taiwanese guavas to Guatemala and the importation of lettuce, broccoli and other vegetables into Belize and the promotion of joint investments in Belize and additional markets in the Caribbean through CARICOM. As a follow-up to the trip, a Guatemalan delegation will visit Belize in early August to tour agricultural sites and projects of interest to both countries. Minister Baeza was accompanied in Guatemala by several government officials and businessmen from the Cayo District.
