One-Stop brakes Bryant’s ballers
Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’ve logged on for this latest hit of Sports Monday. Week two of the semi-pro basketball season found the newcomer Bryant’s Tenants make its debut against Orange Walk Shell One-Stop.
So we immediately go to the tip off as Andrew Robateau of Bryant’s jump against Wendell Robinson. And Wendell, what’s up with the do my man? That’s severe okay.
For certain, the Sugar City squad is bent on rebounding from that loss to B.T.L. Nets Wednesday night, so they go inside to Kirk “Shabba” Smith and the left hand works.
Smith comes right back on the very next possession for this emphatic slam that sends a powerful message to the opposition. Darwin Leslie provides a quick response with this steal and heads all the way down court for two points.
And then Rennick Reneau comes up with this steal and goes the distance for two points as Bryant’s spurt to a five-point lead. Make it a ten-point lead when Brian Flowers rainbows this shot that hits nothing but net.
But O.W. does make that run. John Rhys shows good ball skills to get this ball to Calbert Carcamo, who delivers. The One-Stop team also remembers their go to man “Shabba” and he delivers. Go to Kirk we say and he drives the lane untouched to lay the ball in the centre of the net. And at the half the home team is only down by two points.
In second half, Bryant’s again spurt to the lead as Sean Williams goes the back to find Glenroy Lightfoot, who lays it up.
However, at the other end watch what happen when Damon Lanier misses the three. Jabari Simmons storms in for a monster slam. John Rhys then yearns for three and he rims it in for O.W.
Give Sugar City a four-point lead when Damon Lanier rises inside the paint with this floater. Boy when you’re hot you’re hot and in late second half Damon Lanier is simply sizzling.
Nevertheless, it’s a three-point Bryant’s lead when Gadsden Ferguson finds Brian Flowers who streaks in for two.
But hold everything, did we say Damon Lanier was hot–this wicked three will probably convince the detractors as he runs the game at 67 apiece. Now here’s the key play of the ballgame: it’s a jump ball tipped by Rhys to Wendell Robinson, who fires the long pass to Jabari Simmons who delivers the easy two.
And can you believe it; Darwin Leslie misses the time lay up right here in money time, in prime time, ouch! Bad news my man.
Orange Walk goes on to post the 71-67 big W. that takes their record to two wins one loss.
In the meantime, the stats from the Belize basketball Association remained elusive to us here at the sports desk at press time. We can only tell you what Ms. Nelly Trench told us, which is that the Raiders beat Corozal Dolphins Saturday night to post their first win in three tries.
In volleyball news B.H. Stars emerged the female champion in Saturday’s scheduled at the City Centre by dropping Typhoons in three straight sets 25-11, 25-23, 25-16. Congratulations ladies.
The firm’s category was taken by First Caribbean, who dumped on Lighthouse 18-25, 26-24, 15-6. And yes First Caribbean, when you’re big you’re large.
And in the male class, Berger Scorpions swept past S.Q. Devils in three sets 25-21, 25-17, 25-15. They are the legitimate male champions and we say congratulations to the Belize Volleyball Association for a well-run season.
Meanwhile folks, in closing we just got to mention that whenever you think it’s safe it’s never over ’til it’s over as contemptuous dispute between the Belize Premier Football League and the Football Federation of Belize has reared it’s ugly head once more. As we understand it, the President of the F.F.B. has denied Sagitun and Kulture Yabra any opportunity to bring foreign teams here in Belize. So the Comunicaciones and Sagitun match-up, which was to have been staged at Benque Fiesta, has now been scratched simply because the B.P.F.L. is not affiliated to the F.F.B. and probably they are not talking. Can you believe it! Hey, life is real and then you got to do something about this nasty situation.
Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
