Southern Hwy. accident leaves one dead
In police news, a traffic accident on the Southern Highway has left one man dead. Reports are that just after eleven on Friday morning, a pickup collided with a cyclist near the intersection of the Southern Highway and Savannah Road. According to the driver of the vehicle, thirty-five year old Portfilio Estevez of Cow Pen in the Stann Creek District, the man on the bike suddenly swerved in front of the truck. That man has been identified as Juan Pineda, believed to be from the area. Pineda suffered head and body injuries and was taken to the Southern Regional Hospital, but was later transferred to the K.H.M.H., where he died on Sunday. Police have since charged Estevez with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving without due care and attention, driving without a valid driver’s permit and driving without third party insurance.
