Joshua Teck recovers from esophagus surgery
It’s a story that has a happy ending for a toddler who was born with an incomplete esophagus. Back in March we reported that Joshua Teck was in desperate need for surgery in the U.S.—and after support from various child care services including the International Hospital for Children—he was transported to a medical facility in Richmond, Virginia. Since then his health has improved and now he is back home with his family. Joshua returned to Guinea Grass last week and is expected to have a full and healthy recovery.

“We are extremely excited that Joshua Teck was able to come back to Belize healthy and has a very positive life because in the beginning when the case was referred to us, we didn’t even know if it would be possible for him to make it even up to the states. We worked for about a month and a half tirelessly trying to get him out of the country. With the help of so many people intervening and making sure that this little guy had a chance at life, they came together, donating from twenty-five dollars to twenty-five hundred dollars to pay for the oxygen and now Joshua is back and able to live a normal life like you and I.”
Joshua’s medical bills climbed to fifty thousand dollars. The I.H.C. has been operating in Belize for the past ten years and has been working along with Friends of Paediatrics and other NGOs to assist persons in need of medical assistance abroad. Since January of this year, I.H.C. has helped seventeen children.
