Wicked Eleven take cricket crown

Story Picture
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and welcome aboard for another ride on Sports Monday. Lord’s Bank was the place to be Saturday afternoon where the decisive game three between Berlan of Bermudian Landing and Wicked Eleven of Flower’s Bank for the Harrison Parks National cricket titled was staged.

But first we’ve got to get the pitch ready for this momentous occasion, so we start with the grounds rolling and cleaning. And then the stationary accessories for this match are put into place under strict regulations. The many fans take up their positions, and with this bowl from the Wicked Eleven side the money match is underway.

For Berlan it’s certainly not a premising start as the first batter gets put out after his swing takes him out of bounds and only about a dozen runs have been put up so far.

The very next batter comes up and this slice is caught by the Wicked defence and there’s two outs before you could holler hicatee and white rice.

Meanwhile, the tandem of Pradeep Perera and Colin Young provided crucial scoring for Berlan and looked to be in control until they miscalculate.

After this swing, Young decides to run, but Pradeep hesitates just a split second too long and gets thrown out at the wicket.

Dr. Swami also brought much needed offence to the Berlan team, striking here for a long seventy-six here.

In fact Dr. Swami with twenty-four runs and Colin Young with twenty-three; they provided most of the runs batted in and in fact looked to be in form… until Young’s deep fly to right field is caught for a big out.

And this is how Berlan’s offensive stand ends–it looks like the bat has a hole as the wickets rattle. Berlan totals one hundred and six runs. Troy Rhaburn and Eddie Robinson struck for three wickets a piece.

So it’s Wicked Eleven’s turn to bat and they come out smoking and this six does look pretty good. Here’s four more for Flower’s Bank as they chase Berlan’s total.

Some twenty-eight runs score before the Berlan bowlers come up with their first out, and it seems to be a case of wanting to capitalise off an errant throw, which backfires.

Now here’s a peek at excitement as Kevin “Uzi” Flowers shows real range as a fielder to save four runs with this catch.

However, the Wicked Eleven juggernaut is unstoppable today and when this swing gets through the infield it gives Wicked Eleven of Flower’s Bank a one hundred and eleven runs total with three wickets to spare. They take the 2003 Harrison Parks cricket title and Sports Monday says you’re the boss. Congratulations are in order.

In basketball news, both Belize City teams got rude awakenings on the road over the weekend. Friday night in semi-pro basketball play at Sugar City, Orange Walk’s One Stop jolted the Raiders eighty-five to seventy-seven, while further north Corozal Dolphins crushed B.T.L. Nets one hundred and one to ninety-four.

Will the title finally go out district in the semi-pro world? Could be. Your guess is as good as mine though. Nevertheless, that’s it for now, we invite you back same time, same place, next week. Jah over all! I’m James Adderley.
