Two dead in highway knockdowns
A pedestrian and a cyclist were killed over the weekend in separate traffic accidents at opposite ends of the Northern Highway. On Friday night around seven, forty-five year old Roy Anderson of Ranchito Village was knocked down by a car as he walked between miles eighty-two and eighty-three. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Corozal Hospital. Driver of the car, Karl Leacock Junior, told police that Anderson staggered directly into his path and the collision could not be avoided. No charges have yet been filed against Leacock.
On Saturday morning seventy-six year old David Montejo was hit while riding his bike just north of Ladyville. The incident occurred around ten-thirty when a car driven by Ludrick Beeks ran into Montejo as he pedalled in a northerly direction. Montejo died later that night at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Beeks has been detained pending charges.
