Red Cross builds centre in Dangriga

Story Picture
Residents of Dangriga and the Stann Creek District can sleep a little bit sounder this hurricane season, in the knowledge that in the event of disaster, the Red Cross will not be far away. Nearing completion in the First New Site area is the society’s new district operations centre. Until now, Stann Creek has been the only district without a fully functional Red Cross presence. The ferro concrete building was financed by contributions from the Belize Government, private donors and the Red Cross societies of Norway and Monaco. It was built by contractor Emilio Perez under the supervision of Red Cross Disaster Management Committee member, Anthony Thurton. Volunteers Juanita Joseph, Marie Sharp, Norma Bowman and Estella Humphries were cited for their efforts in making the project a reality.
