Police Officer Avoids Injury, But Friend is Slain in San Victor Road Accident
There were a number of traffic mishaps over the week; two which were fatal. Up north, Corozal police continue to investigate a traffic fatality on the San Victor Road. The driver of a Mazda pick-up collided into the rear of a parked Ford Ranger pick-up truck, losing control and running off the road. The impact fatally injured Bella Vista construction worker Carlos Carias, who was a passenger of the Ford Ranger driven at the time by twenty-four-year-old police officer Victor Noble. According to Noble, he and Carias were tending to the vehicle after it suffered mechanical problems when the Mazda pickup rammed into them. Superintendent Sinquest Martinez, told reporters this afternoon that police are investigating the possibility of alcohol being a contributing factor. He also denied a report that the Mazda was carrying contraband goods.

“The Mazda Tribute that was traveling on the San Victor/San Narciso Road was traveling towards San Narciso village where it collided into the rear of the pickup which had mechanical failure and that was parked on the right hand side of the road with its hazard light turned on. When police responded, they didn’t know it was a fatal until they were told. When police got there, they spoke to a police officer who was the driver of the white pickup truck. He told them what transpired and the victim was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

“Has the investigation led to believe that anybody involved in the accident was drinking or drunk?”

“Well the investigation hasn’t indicated that as yet, but we have the driver in custody as we speak.”

“We also heard reports that the Mazda pickup might have been traveling with contraband. Can you confirm or deny?”
Supt. Sinquest Martinez
“Well when the police got there, there were no goods in the pickup truck. He was a passenger in the Mazda pickup. He was seated on the passenger side of the Mazda pickup when it turned over.”

“Was a blood specimen taken of any person involved in the accident?”

“Yes as we speak, both from the police officer and the driver of the Mazda pickup.”
