Miss Belize to be chosen on Friday
Amidst the burgeoning bevy of Belizean beauty contests, it is the crown jewel…Miss Belize, the pageant of distinction. And this year after months of serious recruiting, organisers promise that all eight contestants vying for the title personify the essence of what Miss Belize represents. The young ladies will spend the week touring the country in a series of activities before the big event on Friday night. We think the judges will have a tough time, so can you pick the winner?
“Hi, my name is Miss Nadine Lopez and I am representing Caye Caulker.”
“Hi, I’m twenty-five year old Dhalila Vanzie representing Dangriga, the cultural capital of Belize.”
“Hi, my name is Isela Duran and I am from San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.”
“My name is Jerrilyn Arnold, I am twenty-three years old. I live in Belize City and I work at the Belize Family Life Association.”
“Hello Belize. Leila Pandy, twenty-two years old. I’m very excited about entering the Miss Belize pageant.”
“Hi, my name is Argentina Novelo. I am twenty-three years old and I am representing the beautiful district of Orange Walk.”
“Hi, I’m Andrea Elrington, a twenty year old resident of Belize City.”
“Hi, my name is Farah Evans, I’m twenty-three years old and a computer engineer. I am from Ladyville and I would like to be your Miss Belize.”
Carolyn Trench-Sandiford, Pageant Organiser
“We took some time out since the last pageant to do some restructuring to sit down and to reassess what we did then and what we need to do, what is our goal, what is our objective, what is our mission statement and to see how we can accomplish that. And by doing that, we reassess our criteria for example for our delegates, what are the types of delegates that we wanted, we also sent girls out to the Miss World Pageant and the Miss Universe Pageant. And by doing that they have come in and give us their experiences out there and that is sort of dictating to us what we need to do to focus in terms of preparing our girls, both for the Miss Belize Pageant and for international pageants.”
“Now Friday night of course is the big gala. Our theme this year is the barrier reef, and so we’ll be doing a whole fifteen-minute introduction with lights, sound effects, all sort of effects in terms of looking at he barrier reef. The girls will be creatures from the sea and they’ll be dressed in various costumes. We also have the swimsuit section and then the glamour, which is the evening gown competition. Thereafter, they have their question and answer segment and then we pick four finalists to go to the finals of the Miss Belize 2003 Pageant.”
