This morning, under the watchful eyes of the legal community and invited guests, former Director of Public Prosecutions, Adolph Lucas was officially sworn in as Justice of the Supreme Court.
Adolph Lucas, Supreme Court Justice
“It is truly an honour to be appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court. Indeed, it is a pleasure for me as a Belizean to serve in this capacity. I will endeavour to do my best to deliver justice and will at all times adhere to the Oath of Allegiance to which I have shortly sworn.”
Lucas in his acceptance speech said that he was encouraged by many to take the position and says he is especially grateful to his fellow members of the Bar who have helped him to maintain his integrity throughout his service in the judicial system.

“In that no member of this body has never approached me, whether in my past role as a Crown Counsel, Chief Magistrate or Director of Public Prosecutions, for me to do something which would have compromised the fair exercise of my official function and duties or to allow my integrity to be called into question. For that, I am extremely grateful to you and I am requesting of you though to continue with that inactivity… that is to say, not to lead me into temptation, so that my integrity will remain intact.”
Before embarking on a legal career, Justice Lucas worked in law enforcement, rising to the post of Senior Superintendent of Police. Jacqueline Woods for News 5.
The other members of the Supreme Court of Belize are Justices Troadio Gonzales and Samuel Lungole Awich and Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh.
