B.T.L. inaugurates international roaming

Story Picture
They are still working out the glitches in the system locally, but that didn’t stop B.T.L. from going worldwide with its Digicell service. International roaming will give B.T.L customers who have signed on to their premier package the luxury of making and receiving calls on their own Digicell phones, almost anywhere in the world. According to Public Relations Manager, Suzette Tillett, the new service will benefit customers who are on the go–and don’t mind paying for the privilege of constant international communication.

Suzette Tillett, Public Relations Manager, B.T.L.

“Well right now, B.T.L has signed with a hundred different countries, but for the launch we presently have about nineteen countries that people can basically roam in, which includes the USA, Canada, Mexico and a lot of popular countries that people in Belize do travel to.”

“Now the international roaming, it sounds good, but it comes at a price. Explain that price to us.”

Suzette Tillett

“Well how the costing works for roaming is that the caller here in Belize makes a call to a Digicell customer, it’s a regular call, they pay the regular Digicell rates, but the person who is the roamer would pay the additional leg from Belize to wherever part of the world that person is.”

“And that is charged at a per minute basis?”

Suzette Tillett

“Yes, it is at a per minute basis and it’s based on the charges that those other networks that the person is roaming in charges us and that how the come up with the charges of how much the roamer would actually pay.”

The Digicell International Roaming Service was launched on Wednesday. Tillett says people who want to utilize the service must have a tri-band phone to ensure compatibility with the different networks. We presume that there is a feature included that allows you to block those expensive incoming international calls from people who may not know you’re out of the country.
