Maureen Leslie: First woman Asst. Police Com.
While on the subject of women doing unusual things, there is a promotion worth noting in the Police Department. This afternoon, subordinate officers called News 5 to big up their boss, informing us that effective April first of this year, forty-nine year old Maureen Leslie became the first Belizean woman to be appointed as Assistant Commissioner of Police. Leslie is currently stationed in Belmopan as commander of Management Services at police headquarters. She joined the force in 1973 and will celebrate thirty years with the department this July.
