Bail Set for Accused in Sexual Assault Case
Fifteen thousand dollars for groping and kissing a teenage minor, that’s the bail amount that was set in the Supreme Court earlier today when thirty-two-year-old Freddy Espinosa appeared before Justice Denis Hanomansingh. Espinosa’s appearance follows an incident on July twenty-fourth in Belmopan where it is alleged that he sexually assaulted a fifteen-year-old girl. Represented in court by attorney Anthony Sylvester, bail for the business consultant was not objected, however, Senior Crown Counsel Christelle Wilson requested that the sum be significant since Espinosa is not domiciled in Belize. That being the case, the crown counsel was asked to suggest a bail amount. The court subsequently agreed that Espinosa must pay fifteen thousand dollars, plus one surety of the same amount. The conditions of the bail however, is that James Brodie and Company, for which Espinosa is a consultant, must put down the amount required. Likewise, Doctor Erasmus Franklin, Manager of Brodies Agro Division, must ensure that Espinosa attends each and every court adjournment until the conclusion of the case.
