Safiyyah’s weekly guide to entertainment

The weatherman is predicting some rain this weekend, but that should not dampen your plans for the lineup of activities in the City, Belmopan and elsewhere. Here is Safiyyah with the weekend agenda.

Hey I’m Safiyyah and this is what’s Happening Belize?

This weekend the Perk Up Coffee House in Belmopan will be lined up with different activities that you may enjoy. Tonight they will have live Acoustic guitar performances, while on Saturday they will be having a movie night featuring family movies that everyone can enjoy. There is no entrance fee to the movie night and there’s free popcorn for all the guests. This happens every week. They also want you to know that if you were to pop in on a Thursday night you can enjoy live poetry readings, stand up comics, musical performances and story tellers.

Another event happening this weekend in Belmopan is an Alice in Wonderland themed Tea Party. This is the Second Annual tea Party is being held by the Belmopan Humane Society. It will run from four until seven p.m. at the George Price Center. There will be prizes in different categories for both men and women for hats, like most creative, beautiful, and funniest. There will be door prizes as well as raffles and of course lots of delicious food. If you bring your own tea cup or dress in the Alice in Wonderland themed costume, you will get a free raffle ticket.

And Belmopan is also the place to be if you want to get a dose of sports this weekend. Tonight there will be the championship night in Volleyball being held by the Belmopan Volleyball Association. These championship games will be held inside the U.B. Gymnasium. The games will begin at eight and everyone is invited out to enjoy.

And here in the city, tomorrow there will be an event called Youth Fest Reloaded. This event will be held at the M.C.C. Grounds starting at five p.m. and continuing on till midnight. It will feature performances by Mr. Program, Tanya Carter, and Berne, to name a few. There will also be dance and modelling competitions. So all youths are invited out to go support and enjoy.

Another big event happening in the city this Saturday night is the Gemini Celebrity Birthday bash being held by DJ Special and Orson E. This big bash will be held inside the Palm Island and the theme for this one is Fantasy. This party is an elegant black and white affair and will feature a performance by Tanya Carter and music by Tagg international, Belizean Movement, Cloud Nine and DJ Motion. So for all you party goers the place to be is Palm Island this Saturday night.

And I got a little scoop about a brand new hot club that will be opening in Orange Walk called Club Midnight. I’ll give you more information about that next week.
