Alvin Godfrey succumbs to gunshot wounds

Story Picture
Tonight, we regret to announce the death of Belize City businessman, Alvin Godfrey. Godfrey, who was shot in the face on April twenty-ninth, died around four-thirty this morning, apparently as a result of complications stemming from his gunshot wounds. The two men arrested for the crime: Louis Gillett and Kareem Molina, both of Belize City, were initially charged with attempted murder. But this morning the pair was rearrested at the Hattieville Prison and charged with murder, dangerous harm, deadly means of harm and use of deadly means of harm. Godfrey was manning his counter at Godfrey’s Store on Sixth Street when two men–one armed with a handgun–apparently intent on robbery, rushed into the store and subsequently shot Godfrey in the face. He was rushed to the K.H.M.H. and later transferred to a hospital in Guatemala City. In mid-May his doctors there declared him well enough to return to Belize and he was readmitted to the Karl Heusner. While his health initially improved, News 5 has been made to understand that his condition had begun deteriorate. A mass to commemorate the life of seventy-five year old Alvin Godfrey will be held on Monday at two p.m. at St. Joseph Church in Belize City. He will be laid to rest at Homeland Memorial on the Western Highway immediately following the service. Godfrey is survived by his wife Zoila and twelve children.
