Injured cop kills assailant

With one policeman injured in the San Ignacio attack, it was already a bad start to Police Week…but, believe it or not, things got worse. Around six Saturday evening in the village of August Pine Ridge in the Orange Walk District, Constable Porfilio Co tried to move a disorderly patron from a bar. The man in question, Abelardo Perez of Trinidad Village, later returned with a machete and tried to get even. Co received chop wounds to the knee, abdomen and left hand. According to police reports, Co managed to pull out his thirty-eight-calibre service revolver and fired a single shot into the chest of Perez. Perez was dead on arrival at Northern Regional Hospital, while Co was admitted in a stable condition. The Police Commissioner has initiated a full investigation of the incident.
