St. Ignatius student scores big

Story Picture
While educators mull over the results of the P.S.E. to see how they can improve student performance, one person who has no complaints about his grade is Micah Munoz. The thirteen-year-old Saint Ignatius Primary School student topped this year’s P.S.E., beating out thousands of his peers to take the Jane and Michael Nembhard Award. Munoz received a composite score of two hundred and seventy out of a possible three hundred on the examination. He told News 5’s Patrick Jones that a combination of help from his friends, teachers and parents was enough to put him over the top.

“The P.S.E., there were some question that were challenging and there were also some questions that you could work mentally in your mind.”

Patrick Jones

“Is there one part of the exam that was particularly difficult for you?”

Micah Munoz

“Well I think that the problem solving was pretty challenging, but I did my best and well that was my best, I did what I could.”

Patrick Jones

“How much work did you put into the P.S.E. Exam?”

Micah Munoz

“Well I put a lot of work into the P.S.E. exam actually, because I started from Standard Four working hard, studying, listening to the teachers. And then when I get into Standard Six there were also extra classes like morning classes and Saturday classes.”

Munoz says he will take up studies at Saint John’s College beginning in August. Second best overall score in the P.S.E. went to Jaime Burgos of La Imaculada Primary School in Orange Walk, while Stewart Jackson of Island Academy in San Pedro came in third. According to the Ministry of Education, Belize Elementary of Belize City ranked number one in order of schools by average mean points on the P.S.E. with two hundred and thirteen point eight out of a possible three hundred. Living World School of Toledo was second.
