Cayo man wounded resisting arrest
A wanted man is recuperating in Belmopan Hospital under police guard tonight after he was shot while resisting arrest. According to police, twenty-four year old Pedro Hernandez has been something of a one-man crime wave in the village of San Antonio, Cayo and on May ninth had tried to murder his own father. On Wednesday, in the company of a number of villagers, the community’s lone policeman closed in on Hernandez and detained him, but after a struggle he escaped. When told to halt and surrender, Hernandez allegedly reached suspiciously toward his waist, at which point the cop shot him in the left side of his abdomen. Acting Commissioner of Police Bernard Lino has ordered an investigation into the incident. Upon recovery, Hernandez is expected to be charged with a number of offences.
