Song Competition moves to Dangriga; September Celebrations will open in O.W.

The National Song Competition takes place this Saturday in Dangriga and preparations are underway for Belizean artists to showcase their musical talents ahead of the annual September Celebrations.  The event, says Neil Hall, will see the participation of singers from across the country.

“That’s going to be in Dangriga.  It’s this weekend, it’s Saturday, it’s eight p.m., it’s free to enter.  It’s the Alejo Beni Park and a lot of people are excited about it. We’ve got contestants from, of course, all over the country.  We are also very excited because it’s going to give us a chance to test the broadcast capabilities of outside of Belize City and we are just really and truly excited about the prospect of including the country in the National September Celebrations and not having it focused only on Belize City and Belmopan, the capital.  So again, that moving to another location is a wonderful opportunity for people from that area to feel much more inclusion in the September Celebrations spirit.  And then it moves over to Orange Walk where we’ll be having the opening of the national month of celebration in September on the third.  Again, lots of excitement because normally that’s held out on the cayes and it limits the amount of participation we can have by regular folks like ourselves, as well as dignitaries and invited guests.  So we’re looking for a wonderful turnout this year, it’s going to be in Orange Walk, it’s going to be in the park right in front of the town council, I believe it’s the Queen Victoria Park and security is on a higher level so we’re asking for the media to please talk to us in advance and get your press passes as that will be a requirement.  We’re also asking for anyone who wants to be a part of the photography crew, etc., to make themselves known in advance so that they can be included.  We are looking at a greater turnout of invited guests simply because it’s something that you can drive to and the fact that it’s going to be in the afternoon means that you can still relax in the morning, get up your normal Sunday morning time but you’ll be able to be there and be a part of the festivities, as well as the formalities of such an event.”
