Primary schooler Janey Bailey, 7, killed in traffic mishap
There was a fatal traffic accident today on the Stann Creek Valley Road in southern Belize that claimed the life of a seven-year-old Dangriga student. Around eleven-thirty this morning, Janey Bailey and her grandmother, forty-seven-year-old Jacklyn Jacobs, alighted a passenger bus between miles three and four on the Hummingbird Highway. When Janey tried to cross to the other side of the road, she was hit by a small Toyota pickup truck being driven at the time by forty-six-year-old Fernando Elvarenga of Silk Grass Village. The minor was rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital suffering from head injuries. She slipped into a coma and was being transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for further medical attention; however, she succumbed en route. A notice of intended prosecution has been served on Elvarenga and his vehicle impounded.
