Tourist stabbed in Belize City robbery
A U.S. tourist is tonight recuperating from injuries he received during a robbery in Belize City on Tuesday night. Thirty-year-old Alva Caple had only arrived in the country that afternoon, checked into the Princess Hotel and later decided to take a walk along the Newtown Barracks. Around ten p.m. he was on his way back to the hotel and heard music coming from Club Calypso. Not familiar with the area, Caple tried to get to the club through the locked gate on the north side of the property across from the Mexican Cultural Institute. And that’s where two men attacked him from behind. Without word or warning, Caple says one of the men, armed with a large knife, stabbed him three times…two deep wounds to his torso and another to his left forearm. As he stood there bleeding and trying to fight back, the victim says the men stole money from his pockets and then made their getaway. Caple was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was admitted to ward. But on Wednesday Caple discharged himself from the K.H.M.H. and told News Five this afternoon that despite his aches and pains, he has decided to continue his travel plans in Belize.
