Bethel primary schoolers have fees covered by organization
Children First and Last Belize is a non-profit organization that supports children in education and health care. As a part of their contribution to education, today members of the organization presented a check of about seven hundred dollars to the Principal of Bethel Primary School in Belize City. The money is to cover school fees for seventeen students, from Infant Two through to Standard Six, who have been identified by the school as those most deserving based on financial need. While the school has a population of only seventy-seven students, the needs are many and varied – and as we found out today the small grants will go a long way.
Edward Logan, Principal, Bethel Primary
“We are catering to students who have many situations that they end up not having their parents pay the fees, which are small in comparison to other schools, but still difficult for them to meet. We were pleasantly surprised over the summer by C-FAL who came in and offered to work with our school and this is the first project that they have laid.”
Patricia Lamb, C-FALBelize
“We came up with 17 scholarships; school fee scholarships that we are going to be providing on an annual basis for the kids from wherever class they are at leading through to their time here at Bethel Primary School. We hope it is going to be a positive impactbecause one of the things we have heard is because of the lack of the finances some of the kids were not coming on a regular basis. This, now, is one less thing for the parents to be concerned with. Because the fees are already provided so now it is just to make sure the kids come to school. Based on those 17 selections, they will know that this is going to be a yearly thing. Having said that, we are not just going to provide the monies and then walk away. The school will be required to turn in some information, some reporting mechanism to the club because we will be following the students’ progress, as they go through Primary School.”
