Teen told to keep the peace after slapping girlfriend twice

Nineteen-year-old Kadeem Augustine was remanded to the Belize Central Prison on Friday, after pleading guilty to harming his girlfriend.  The teenager, who claims to be in love with his girlfriend, reportedly beat her up when he found out that she was not at a house where she said she would have been visiting.  According to the victim, she was seated inside a friend’s house and when Augustine showed up at the residence he told her to leave with him.  When his girlfriend refused, he reportedly struck her on the left side of the face.  Insisting that she leave with him, Augustine allegedly slapped her once again to the right side of the face.  After four nights in lockup, Augustine appeared before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza today, accompanied by attorney Kathleen Lewis, who spoke on his behalf.  She told the court that since her client is a first time offender, he should be given a second chance.  With that, Magistrate Mendoza bounded Augustine over the peace for one year, or in default he would serve two months in prison.
