Singer Dajah shakes off trauma of robbery near cemetery

On the Phone: Dajah Young

For the second time in several months, a well-known Belizean artist is the victim of an armed robbery. The most recent and brazen attack occurred this morning near the Lord Ridge Cemetery in which dancehall star Dajah Young was held up at gunpoint by a robber who pounced on her as she walked along the cemetery. The thief escaped with Young’s purse containing an unknown amount of cash and her cell phone. It was a most frightening experience for the singer, who says that she has never been so scared in her life. The twenty-one-year-old told News Five that she was once the victim of a shooting years ago. Young posted her ordeal on social media earlier today likened the experience to that of Tanya Carter and Sharon Martinez. Young says that, (Quote) “the money and phone are material things, which can be replaced, but the peace of mind lost during this experience is most devastating.” (Unquote) In an interview with News Five this afternoon, she says that she is moving past the experience since she must prepare for her appearance on Thursday night at the Belikin Fest.

On the Phone: Dajah Young, Victim of Robbery

“My cousin gave me a ride to the cemetery and I got out there and when I was walking half way on the road along the cemetery, the guy approached me with a gun. I saw him from a distance and I thought he was a regular dude who was just visiting a grave or something. But he just snuck up behind me, grabbed my purse off my shoulder and grabbed my phone out of my hand.”

“Yeah. But the thing is, you want to know what, I don’t take it as a fright now; I just take this so that this can build me into a stronger person.”

“I know that you also have a performance coming up later on….”

“Yes, on Thursday. That’s what I am doing right now. I am not going to let anything stop me from doing what I love.”
