Leads Scarce in Gilroy Martinez Murder Investigation
On Monday, we reported on the murder of thirty two year old Gilroy Martinez of Curl Thompson Street in Belize City. Martinez was shot in the head around eight on Monday when he was visiting a house in his neighborhood. All indications are that the killing is the gang related and police have been looking for the killer. That same day police picked up two men for questioning but two days later they have not made any arrests. We asked Officer in Charge of Easter Division South Marco Vidal where the investigation stands.
Sr. Supt. Marco Vidal, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South
“We have made some inroads, but not enough that we can move forward with charges. But there are other information that we are working on and certainly as that develops you will see something in that regard.”
Andrea Polanco
“Have the two persons been released?”
Sr. Supt. Marco Vidal
“Yes, they would have been released already but the investigation continues in that matter.”
Andrea Polanco
“Do you have a suspect?”
Sr. Supt. Marco Vidal
“We have but as I said we need to get evidence because we just can’t pick up people and then investigate. We investigate first and then we charge.”
In another murder, a sixteen-year-old-boy has been charged for the shooting death of Armando Lopez. On Sunday, August twentieth, Lopez was socializing at a bar on Barrier Reef Drive in San Pedro when he was shot and killed. According the Police, a teenager was the gun man and today that minor was charged with the brazen killing that happened downtown San Pedro. Lopez was a carpenter and fisherman on the island but he was originally from Corozal. It was reported that he lived a humble life and was an easy going person who didn’t trouble anyone.
