Cecil Gabourel sentenced for killing his wife

Story PictureOn December twenty-fifth 2006, Carol Gabourel told her husband Cecil not to cut the Christmas ham. But he did and the fight that ensued ended fatally for Carol. After three trips to the court and two guilty pleas, Cecil, was sentenced today to fifteen years in jail for his wife’s death. The story was initially told by Carol’s fourteen year old son, who witnessed the incident and claimed that his mother hit his step-father with a broom after he cut the ham. He said his father then stabbed her at the collar bone. When he finally got the chance to tell his version of the story today, Gabourel maintained that he is guilty of Manslaughter but his attorney, Simeon Sampson, told the court that his client was provoked and his wife was having an affair. According to Gabourel, Carol hit him with a broom and left the house to meet another man waiting in a taxi outside. She then allegedly told him about only having a bicycle and that’s what Gabourel claimed pushed him over the edge and drove him to react violently. He immediately turned himself in to the police after the incident and says he cried uncontrollably because he never meant to kill her. While Sampson asked for leniency , Justice Adolph Lucas imposed the fifteen year sentence, effective January twenty-third when Gabourel first pleaded guilty.
