Off-duty cops bust chain snatcher

A chain snatcher got more than he bargained for, thanks to quick thinking by a pair of off-duty policemen. Twenty-three year old Chantelle Daly, an employee of the Princess Casino, was walking near the Swing Bridge in Belize City shortly after seven Thursday night when a young man grabbed the chain off her neck. The victim reports that she put up a fight, but her assailant overpowered her and ran off. That’s when P.C.s Mirick Caliz and Rudy Melendez, both off-duty officers of the patrol branch, swung into action. They chased the robber down Water Lane where they caught up with him and took him into custody. Identified as twenty-three year old Kevin Staine of Police Street in Belize City, he has been charged with attempted robbery. According to the police commissioner, Caliz and Melendez will receive commendations for their valiant efforts.
