Chinese donate computer to cops
This morning, the Belize Police Department accepted a valuable piece of equipment…that is expected to help victims identify the perpetrators of crimes against them. The Belize Chinese Association handed over a computer to the Central Intelligence Unit based at the Queen Street Police Station in Belize City. Both Police Commissioner Carmen Zetina and President of the Belize Chinese Association, Lee Mark Chang, say the machine will help the cops bring more criminals to justice.
Lee Mark Chang, Pres., Belize Chinese Association
“Well, the Belize Chinese Association is working hand in hand right now with the Police Department, which in they are doing a great job. I think they are doing a very good job and so the computer will enhance the efficiency of the Police Department.”
Janelle Chanona
“What sort of information is the department trying to computerize right now?”
Carmen Zetina, Commissioner of Police
“Records, crimes, location of crimes…analysis is being conducted on where crimes are being conducted, profiling criminals, these are the kinds of things that the computer will be put to use.”
Janelle Chanona
“Has that been a sensitive issue, the profiling of criminals in that even though if you commit one crime and you pay your debt to society, you are still flagged as a usual suspect?”
Carmen Zetina
“We are looking at database so every person that comes into the custody of police, we usually profile them for future use. Because what happens is that whenever a crime is being committed and or reported, they usually brings them in here and the person goes through the whole profiles that we have. And I can tell you Miss Chanona that this thing has proved very fruitful to us.”
The value of the computer was tagged at four thousand Belize dollars and obtained through U.S. COM.
