New road opened for More Tomorrow
It’s called Ibrahim Abdullah Drive, and seldom has a piece of road been more closely associated with the person it’s named for. Today the link from mile forty on the Western Highway to the village of More Tomorrow was officially dedicated and, speaking on behalf of the community’s sixty-three families, the long time activist spoke from the heart.
Ibrahim Abdullah
“I have lived long enough, I’m now seventy-six and I’ve lived long enough to see that this materialize. This is a beautiful thing done for More Tomorrow, and when I think, I don’t speak of More Tomorrow, but I speak of Belize and all its people. This will be contributing to the nation of Belize, because you’ll have access into More Tomorrow and there’ll be access into the farms and there will be more development into the nation and all its people. So I think it’s one of the most historical thing that has taken place today when this road has been open. And I appreciate the honour that they gave me.”
Cost of the road was over three hundred and seventy-five thousand dollars. The historic village of More Tomorrow, situated on the Belize River, is two hundred and ten years old.
