Hospital Auxiliary launches new cookbook
Thirty-eight years ago a group of women got together and formed the Hospital Auxiliary. The focus of the organization is to assist health institutions and also help individuals who are in need of medical care but cannot afford the treatment. Their money comes from donations and various fund raising projects like the Hospital Auxiliary Cookbook. This weekend, the organization will launch the book’s third edition. It contains popular Belizean classics, as well as some newer recipes.
Magda Burgos, President, Hospital Auxiliary
“I would say this is practically a new cookbook because it still has some of the old recipes, but this cookbook has a new format, a brand new cover, new added recipes and they were all Belizean recipes…well from Belizean housewives.”
“This is a fundraiser for the organisation. We sell the books and the money goes to our organisation. We have an executive body and this is where you see to the needs of the place. We also have visitations that we do for Rockview Hospital and Sister Cecilia Home and Golden Haven. And we spend our money by treating them, but giving them a birthday party, by helping out in these institutions. So this money is being used for a worthy cause.”
You can purchase a copy of the new cookbook at a special discount price this Saturday between nine a.m. and one p.m. The two locations are the Hospital Auxiliary shop at the K.H.M.H. or the turkey dinner sale at Helpage in Belize City. The regular price is fifteen dollars, but on Saturday it will sell for ten.
