Michael Finnegan wins ministerial tug of war
Dawn Jorguenson tears poured from her eyes when she spoke to News Five on October fifteenth. She was upset that a parcel of land that was in her family’s possession from the sixties was taken away by Minister of National Security Carlos Perdomo. Jorguenson’s lot is across from the United Democratic Party’s Caribbean Shores Office in Kings Park. What’s more noteworthy is that Jorguenson is a staunch supporter of the U.D.P. and in particular of Minister of Housing Michael Finnegan. Finnegan intended to build a house for Jorguenson, who is a single mother. Finnegan said he would spend every cent he had to have an attorney argue the case in court. Well, we’re happy to report that Finnegan won’t empty his bank account as he confirmed to us today that Jorguenson is back in possession of her property. At Wednesday’s press conference, PM Barrow indicated that he initially approved of Finnegan’s verbal lashing of Perdomo.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“In terms of Minister Finnegan’s public appearance, I regret that that took place but that was sanctioned by me. I have apologized to the Minister of National Security because upon mature reflection, it struck me that I ought never to have sanctioned the public appearance; that I ought to have said to the Minister, let’s sort it out in Cabinet before you say anything. And the reason I was wrong is because it appears that our democracy cannot easily withstand what I would consider fairly normal stresses and strains. The course of governance, like the course of true love never did run smooth you know. As long as there are no fundamental issues causing any disunity in our Cabinet, I am perfectly prepared to have little areas of disagreement played out even in public. I miscalculated, so, as I said, I have apologized to the Minister. The Minister of Housing has apologized to the Minister. The matter was amicably settled. They got together afterwards and I saw them engaged in what if I didn’t know better, I would have thought was a veritable love fest. I saw them tet-a-tet and whispering in each other’s ears and so if there was a problem there ain’t none now.”
Now that the ministers have kissed and made up, the construction on Jorguenson’s home is expected to be swift and include input from both Finnegan and Perdomo.
