Charles Brown Charged for Rape of a Child
There is a disturbing report of rape of a minor by a man three times her senior. Thirty-nine-year-old Charles Alexander Brown of Madam Liz Avenue, Belize City is remanded to Central Prison tonight after being charged with the rape of a child. On September eighteenth, a thirteen-year-old female minor told police that while at home with her aunt, who is living with a disability; a resident of the area familiar to her entered her home and raped her. A medical examination conducted on the minor certified her injuries as grievous harm. After making a formal complaint and giving a description, police quickly arrested Brown. Appearing before Magistrate Aretha Ford, the court prosecutor strongly objected to bail despite the offence not falling under the current laws for ineligibility to receive bail. The Magistrate agreed with the prosecutor that the offense is serious and that there is a possibility of witness interference because the defendant knows where the child lives. Brown was denied bail despite claiming to be the breadwinner for his family. He returns to court in November.
