Special Assignment Team Accused in Latest Menace Near School

But even as Prime Minister Dean Barrow was addressing the nation and promising reformation of the Gang Suppression Unit, members of the police department were menacing residents of south side Belize City. Video obtained by News Five shows officers putting the screws to several young men in an alleyway next to Queen’s Square Anglican School on Armadillo Street this afternoon, as residents shouted and hurled invectives at them for taking advantage. In the cacophony of voices can be heard clearly frustrated residents giving voice to their anger with their harassers. Then the sound of gunfire can be heard which only inflames residents more. Ultimately, two young men can be seen being hauled off in the back of the police truck but it is not clear in what circumstances the officers made their visit or what they were doing in the area. The Commander of the Professional Standards Branch, ACP Chester Williams says that the officers captured in a violent incident in an alley near the Queen Square Primary School are in fact members of the Special Assignment Team.
