Cayo singer makes recording debut

Story Picture
She’s a small town girl who is trying to hit it big on the world music scene. Nineteen-year-old Marie Reimer of San Ignacio has just returned from the United States to promote her first professional work, done under the B.F.I. label of Nashville, Tennessee. Reimer is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Music at Brandon University in Canada. Production of her new album, titled “Maria”, started in June of last year. The C.D. contains ten songs, but Reimer says the first track is the one that has gotten rave reviews.

“The number one song, the one that we’re promoting, its pretty much the best song. It’s more for the younger people like my age. Its called “That Never Happens To Me” and it’s a kind of a pop song like it’s not too much country it’s not too much pop, it’s kind of like a mixture and its really good. Like my brother and my cousin had a sample of the C.D. and they let their high school friend listen to it and they like that song. That’s the best song that they like and we did like an interview with different people, gave them all the songs, say which one, and that was the one that most people reacted to so that’s the one that we’re promoting as the hit song.”

“It was done internationally and its very mush easier to become known as a singer from another country already. People like that stuff in the States, you know and in Canada and all those places. Like Shakira, she was a singer from Colombia. All of these people were like Hispanic singers and become famous, you know, Ricky Martin all of these people. So if I have the support of my country and he could take me to the United States and say this is a singer in Belize, then the people would be like, oh all right she is professional, so then they will probably just take me in and I could do something further on with the music.

“The reason we decided for Maria is because in the future it’s going to be more easier for people to recognize me. Like if I decide to go and make some Spanish music, they could say Maria, like in Mexico and the States, like Cuban part of Miami and stuff like that. And for just American people or English people, they could just say Maria. It’s a name that can go both ways.”

Marie was “accidentally” discovered in April of last year by producer Bernie Faulkner when her father was showing off his daughter’s recordings with the group “Marie and the Pumas” to some visiting friends from the United States. The C.D. will be available at most music outlets countrywide beginning Wednesday.
