5 men busted with 70+ lbs of weed
The Police Department is on a natural high tonight, after arresting five men and confiscating close to eighty pounds of weed in two separate incidents along the Western Highway.
Police officials in San Ignacio say that around nine Thursday morning officers on patrol spotted two men walking on the highway carrying backpacks. But as the officers got closer, the men dumped their bags and took to the bush. The police followed suit, but according to the officers, seconds later, one of the men turned back and threatened them. Shots were fired, and in the aftermath, twenty-one year old Osmond Contreras lay bleeding in the grass from wounds to his leg and hand. Contreras was rushed to the San Ignacio Hospital for treatment and his companion, seventeen-year-old Arnaldo Archilla, was detained. So what made them run in the first place? Well it turns out those heavy bags the men tried to ditch were chock full of marijuana…approximately ten pounds of it. Tonight both Archilla and Contreras are charged with drug trafficking.
Fast-forward a few hours to mile seventeen on the Western Highway and it’s the same scene. This time it’s three men walking on the side of a road and going into a panic at the sight of the police. The trio hotfooted it into the foliage, but the cops caught two of them. The officers took a look around and found two large sacks of weed ready for shipment, weighing in at approximately seventy pounds. The salesmen have been identified as William Pot, no pun intended, and Jaime Ruiz, both twenty-five and both of the Cayo District. Pot and Ruiz have been charged with drug trafficking.
