P.M.: Justice will be done in passport scandal
Monday’s accident is not the only matter on Kirk Anderson’s mind as interest is mounting over how he will handle the files now on his desk dealing with last year’s passport scandal. Today I spoke to Prime Minister Said Musa, who said the ball is squarely in the D.P.P.’s court.

“The police I believe have more or less now, I understand, completed their investigation. It’s a question of the D.P.P. and his staff evaluating the evidence that they have and where necessary making the necessary charges. It’s a judicial matter now, it’s in the hands of the D.P.P. and certainly not in the hands of the politicians.”

“On March sixth you were on stage talking about stamping out corruption, and it seems that there was some corruption going in within the Immigration Department. As a politician are you going to be making sure that you continue to push these authorities to get some justice done?”
Prime Minister Said Musa
“Yes indeed. We have not slept on these things. The education matter for instance, the Auditor General is carrying a thorough investigation into that. As you know the immigration matter, the police have carried out an investigation. We do indeed to see these things through to the end. We have not stopped them. I have invited the Inter-American Development Bank to assist us with the whole question of establishing the proper monitoring procedures to strengthen the institutions that can supervise good governance such as the Ombudsman, the Contractor General, the Auditor General office, as well as the House Oversight Committees. We have been talking with and been in contact with the Canadian government. I didn’t mention this before, but we have done that now and they have an organisation that works closely with Transparency International, who will be coming to Belize to assist us in this whole issue of good governance.”
Accusations of criminal conduct with regard to the illegal selling of Belizean passports date back to July of last year.
