B.D.F. detained for injuring Orange Walk resident

But it was not all about murders. Jeffries also provided some information on a B.D.F. soldier who has been detained for allegedly injuring an Orange Walk man and we asked about the grenade that was thrown into the home of Comptroller of Customs, Gregory Gibson.

Delahnie Bain
“You mentioned earlier that a B.D.F. solider was detained.”

Crispin Jeffries
“Yes, that is as a result of an incident that occurred in the Orange Walk District over the weekend. A B.D.F. Sergeant has been detained and he is to be charged today because of the injuries he inflicted or allegedly inflicted on a male person in the Orange Walk district.”

Delahnie Bain
“And that was a stabbing incident?”

Crispin Jeffries
“The information is that it was an edge tool. It could be—my information is that it’s a stabbing incident but I have not yet seen the written report with all the details. I have been briefed on it but I need to confirm whether it’s a stabbing or a chopping.”

Delahnie Bain
“Another case that has been kinda up in the air was the incident where a grenade was thrown at the house of the Comptroller of Customs. Has there been any…”

Crispin Jeffries
“We’ve done extensive work on that. In fact, there are some successes in terms of where we are with the origins of the grenade. Our counterparts in the United Kingdom came to Belize, we did some work together and they had been making progress. But in terms of the actual incident in Belize City, we’ve gone to detain at least two persons and we’ve gotten good information to suggest that we’ve detained the right person but it is evidence sufficient to make an arrest because if we make an arrest and we don’t have evidence then it will appear to be a statistical arrest. So it is not hearsay but it is hard evidence that can prove that we are dealing with the right person.”

On Thursday, we’ll have more from the Jeffries interview.
