Another shooting leaves victim critical

Story Picture
It is becoming a familiar story…with even the names and locations seeming to display a touch of déjà vu. News 5’s Jacqueline Woods has details of the latest shooting to echo across the city.

Jacqueline Woods, Reporting

A trail of blood on the sidewalk and street tell you just how seriously eighteen-year-old Leonard Arnold was injured after he was shot on Monday night. Arnold was standing by Chon Saan Restaurant on Euphrates Avenue talking to a friend when two men on a bicycle rode by and fired shots at him. The first bullet tore through the back of a parked Chevrolet pickup, while the next one caught Arnold in the neck. Charles Gillett, who was nearby in this alley, says he heard four gunshots and then saw a bloody Arnold and his friend run towards him.

Charles Gillett, Witness

“I heard like this man said, F, they just shot me in my neck. When I heard that and I came from the alley, I heard a guy said let’s just run through this alley and I said no.”

“This is Leonard Arnold, the guy who got shot?”

Charles Gillett

“Yes, and I said no man and his friend took him into the Chinese restaurant because he ran up the street and he turned back because he became conscious that the blood was spraying out of his neck you know. Ad they took him into the Chinese restaurant and he lay down on the floor and he plead to another guy to take him to the hospital that had a car parked in the front.”

Arnold was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he remains on a ventilator unable to breathe on his own. Meanwhile, police say at this time they have no suspects and do not know why Arnold was shot. Jacqueline Woods for News 5.
