Sixth annual garden show set for weekend

Story Picture
If you’re looking for somewhere to go this weekend, you might want to stop in at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall for the annual Belize City Garden Club Show. The two-day activity will be held under the theme: The Glory of the Garden is for Family and Friends. According to organizers, the plan is to show Belizeans that everyone in the family can derive pleasure from a garden. This evening, News 5 stopped in for a preview, as club members were busy putting up the various exhibits.

Julia Castillo, V.P., Belize City Garden Club

“The purpose of the show is to get people interested in plants and gardening, And just to beautify our homes and gardens with flowers.”

Jacqueline Woods

“Tell us about tomorrow’s show, what will be taking place.”

Julia Castillo

“Tomorrow morning from nine to eleven, we will be having the judging of the design section, which deals with different types of arrangements, cut specimens in the horticultural section, and plants. And then we also have on display, about seven different types of gardens. So we have a tropical water feature, we have a lover’s garden, mother’s garden, father’s garden, children’s garden, the elderly garden, and meditation garden. As you can see over there, Pandora is fixing up; I think she has the elderly. And then they’re fixing up a lover’s garden on the other side.”

Jacqueline Woods

“What has been the response over the years?”

Julia Castillo

“Not bad at all, quite good, people attending the flower show has been good. The only thing is we have a conflict with the auto show last year and this year. But we are hoping that the flower lovers and the plant lovers will still come and support us.”

Last year, the Belize City Garden Club celebrated its tenth anniversary. Entrance to the show is free and plants will be on sale.
