New Commissioner of Police addresses latest homicides…
Another stabbing incident occurred less than twenty-four hours later and less than two hundred yards away from the spot where the murder occurred. Around one-thirty Sunday morning, twenty-one year old Justin Gongora was walking home from the Faya Wata Bar with his brother-in-law, Howard Howe when they were approached by two men in front of Tai San Shop on Burns Avenue. A fight ensued between the group of men and Gongora was stabbed twice to the chest and wounded on his abdomen. The culprits have since been identified as thirty-eight year old Mike Zaiden and Gabino Garnett Junior, according to Inspector Thompson.

“Sometime around two-thirty a.m. on Sunday morning, police received a report of a fight that was in progress on Burns Avenue. Upon the arrival of police officers at the scene, we found out that one individual had received stab wounds to the chest area and one to the abdomen. He was then transferred to the San Ignacio Hospital and later on transported to the Belize City hospital. Since then we have carried out and investigation and have found out that two individuals, we have arrested one of them by the name of Miguel Zaiden and have charged him for Attempted Murder. He was arraigned this morning in Magistrate’s Court here in San Ignacio.”
Garnett Junior is currently wanted by the police. The victim, Gongora, is in critical condition at the K.H.M.H.
