Heads of Vital Stats, Labour Before Senate Wednesday
On Wednesday, the Senate Special Select Committee intends to call the heads of the Labor Department and the Vital Statistics Unit. This is following revelations in recent weeks about the obtaining of birth certificates as the start to acquiring other documents confirming Belizean nationality, including nationality certificates. Immigration Director Diana Locke had contended that while there were no instances of fraud concerning documents from the department, there are enough errors that lead to concerns. As for labor, there is a concern that work permits may be fraudulently used to establish history in Belize, which can then be used to get nationality. We will have highlights in Wednesday’s newscast.
